The Mermaid Inn
Historic inn with bar and restaurant on Rye's cobbled Mermaid Street
About The Mermaid Inn
The Mermaid Inn stands on Mermaid Street, the steep cobbled lane that climbs through the heart of Rye's old town. Its cellars are thought to date back to the twelfth century, and much of the timber-framed building was rebuilt in the 1400s, so expect low beams, wood panelling and large open fireplaces. The inn is closely linked with stories of the area's smuggling past. Today it runs as a hotel with a bar and a restaurant, and non-residents are welcome to call in for a drink or book a table for lunch or dinner. Service times can vary, so it is worth phoning ahead.
