About this event
Lewes holds Bonfire Night on 5 November itself, which in 2026 falls on a Thursday. The town's bonfire societies, including Cliffe, Commercial Square, Lewes Borough, South Street and Waterloo, process through the streets in costume carrying flaming torches, with effigies and tableaux. Each society then holds its own bonfire and fireworks at a separate firesite, with entry by ticket from the individual societies. Roads into the town close from 4.45pm, and trains are not expected to stop at Lewes, Falmer, Cooksbridge, Glynde or Southease from 5pm. The authorities ask people from outside the area not to travel and to support a bonfire closer to home.
